Hullo Everyone!

We are excited by the opportunity to create the emotion and care that you wish to express through your gift to someone important to you.

My wonderful staff continue to develop their floral skills by attending advanced design courses, and to see demonstrations by leading Australian and international floral designers. Our wedding packages are easily competitive with other specialists and corporate and display work a regular feature. The conveniently located shop draws many personal shoppers too for the inexpensive fresh flowers available.

The stunning new synthetic decorator flowers and plants, as seen in many homemaker magazines, are a lasting statement of style. They are the finishing touch for today's modern lifestyle. Arrangements are sensational in glass, ceramics, metal or cane containers. We have the expertise to help achieve the emotive scenes and looks of today.

There is always an air of freshness and opportunities to explore more ideas. Already we have seen the introduction of inexpensive new products for the ever popular baby baskets and hampers. We are continuing to stock an exclusive range of practical hand made clothes, and nursery items for the new born, as well as soft toys and photo frames.

Toiletries for men and women covers an expanded range of quality inclusions as we meet the changing market trends. In fact we are delighted to continue stocking Australian made products for men and women. We think so much of our Trelivings range that we have carried the beautifully packaged products for eighteen years. Our Ready For Men range is also regularly available and packaging is tasteful yet modern suiting all ages. Neither range is tested on animals.

Gourmet baskets are still high on the list of favourites as a fine choice for so many occasions and can be made especially personal, or still remain a suitable corporate presentation. We will be expanding this range over the next few months so keep in contact and see the many changes. Better still, order one for someone with whom you can share the delights!

Sweets and confectionery, fresh fruits and even fresh vegetables all present as excellent choices for great gift ideas. Our large container plants have also been successful. The recently introduced 'starter kits' for friends and family moving house, are a practical way to assist those younger members not sure of the basics required. The selection of goods are designed to establish the good old basics needed in every household.

We will continue to offer quality products and services at an affordable price. We look forward to helping you.

Remember we are the original and still the best for flowers and gift baskets!

FULL FLORIST SERVICES.

Send.a.Basket has always provided a full floral service too! The talented and trained floral designers just love the opportunity to work with wonderful fresh flowers!
Owner Steve has relaunched the flowers side as he says the SAB name has stifled the florist arm of the business a little, even though many customers have never used the services for anything else but flowers.

Even though the highest standards have been set to achieve the best in quality, presentation and fashion for their valued customers this philosophy does not equate to the flowers being expensive. Steve says, "We work hard to offer value for money, good service and are proud of our fine reputation".

Bunches or bouquets of seasonal flowers, boxes, vases, buckets, pots and baskets, whatever you may require for your choice of flowers, is available. You can even bring in your own container and an arrangement can be prepared for you. The gift will be beautifully wrapped and advice given on the best care for longer lasting flowers.

Wedding work is an all time favourite and appointments can be made to discuss those special details. Bereavements too, are handled with care and consideration.

The flower market is much more sophisticated now and is closely linked with fashion. Flowers are no longer considered just for special occasions. The life of cut flowers is a busy one even before you have made your purchase as you keep in mind the whole cycle from seedling to grower to market to retail to you!
As leisure time becomes more precious we look to our homes to provide a relaxing haven away from the busy world in which we participate. We look to decorate to suit the changing moods. The impact of popular DIY television shows and magazines have made us more aware of the endless possibilities to achieve 'that look'!

Certainly Send.a.Basket, your flower shop, can offer ideas and expertise to help achieve the emotive scenes and the looks of today that enhance our lifestyles. Come visit us soon, or do the next best thing phone us and have a chat.

Our Market Place

Australians only spend about $25 per head a year on cut flowers although the trend is fast rising. Part of the increase has come about from our change of lifestyle.

More of us have become apartment dwellers, which need frequent decoration.
The flower market is much more sophisticated in recent years and is closely linked with fashion. Flowers are no longer considered just for special occasions.
The life of cut flowers is a busy one even before you have made your purchase so to ensure that flowers will last more than a few days choose a reputable florist who properly cares for their fresh stock.

Firstly, most flowers have been grown in a green house or seed farm, then to a buyer, the local flower markets, the florist shop and finally to you!

Interestingly it is estimated that women and gay men buy more flowers but do not spend as much as a guy buying a lavish bunch for the girlfriend.

Whilst the supermarket chains offer cheap bunches in most of their retail food outlets they do not see themselves as our direct competition.

They recognise that when people want a proper gift, or wedding and funeral work the discerning buyer will always go to a quality florist shop to purchase flowers in preference to the assembly line, cheap product.

Flower buying on the web is certainly perceived as a most convenient customer service because generally sites can offer visuals of what you are ordering. However, when you have the opportunity to, the personal contact with the florist preparing your work is still really what most people prefer.

FLOWERS: The Essential Accessory

Flowers and plants are even more popular than ever and the feast of DIY television shows has increased this trend.

They help to create a warm and inviting charm to any home interior and as the tv presenters tell us, you do not need to be a designer to achieve perfect results. Flowers help to enhance the style you have chosen for your home.
These 'styles' tend to follow the classic or traditional feel, modern contemporary, Victorian and the increasing casual easy lifestyle.
Typical classic features mean formal architecture and impressive often grand features. Design elements include elegant fabrics, and antiques.

A classic arrangement would call for roses, gladioli, lillies, irises and carnations, or tulips, freesias and snapdragons with greenery perhaps from tree branches or fruit as a feature. These would look superb in a wonderful antique vase or urn.
Modern contemporary calls for sleek and chic. Smooth surfaces and clean lines in furniture would be a display point for bold and exotic flowers in a dramatic look with strong lines to compliment the open spaces. Anthuriums, heliconia, callas, and orchids would look their best, displayed in frosted glass or pottery and metallic containers with stainless finishes.

Victorian style is easily recognised by the velvets and satins and chintzy softness and feeling of romance exuded. Pastel colours and tone on tone prints are commonly used to create the ambience and play on the senses.
Glass, crystal and silver vases hold fragrant flowers including rose sprays and peonies, lavender, freesias and gardenias.

The simplicity of life is only enhanced by the casual easy lifestyle. Uncomplicated furnishings of light timber and natural cane, bleached or white washed painted finishes provide the stress free environment and fabrics of linen and cotton are used in neutral tones. Casually grouped plants also appear in this style and may include cyclamen, kalanchoe or ferns. Daisies and sunflowers may be displayed in an old pottery vase or clear glass bowl or jug.

Whatever your preference in home decor, the addition of beautiful fresh cut flowers and plants offer us all the opportunity to be individual and create an added personal element so pleasing to the eye. More and more we are seeking to spend time in our own homes so why not brighten your home room by room with beautiful flowers.

Favourite Gifts

Flowers, clothing and jewellery are thought to be the most popular gifts exchanged. Clothing is considered a convenient, popular gift and jewellery should make us smile. But flowers are still the all time winner as the way to express "I love you"!

Gifts allow us to express emotion and to make people feel special - personal expressions of our feelings. Flowers are always considered a thoughtful choice and often used as a last minute or a "I'm sorry" gesture too.

As well as expressing love, flowers can reinforce a message of friendship, or "I care about you too", or even a "no reason at all moment".

Our lives are changing every minute but it is still the personal touches that are most meaningful.

Women should not assume that men do not like receiving flowers, for the research proves otherwise. Men enjoy no reason at all surprises almost as much as women, though tickets to a sporting match most probably rate fairly well too.

Flowers For A Man

Too many women still deny the men in their lives, the pleasures of receiving a beautiful arrangement of flowers. Yet a recent survey of men found that 60% of those surveyed would love to have received flowers, especially on Valentine's Day. We florists have known for years that men love flowers and finally there is an increasing trend to send men flowers for their special occasions.

Men too are buying them more and more for themselves, as they discover the look of bright and beautiful flowers for their homes and offices. All of us like to feel special so next time you have an opportunity to spoil a man try sending him flowers.

Of course there are some useful guidelines for you to follow so here are a few handy hints. Generally the pastels and more traditional feminine designs are better avoided for the majority of males but a contemporary or exotic style with bright powerful colours is always a good start.

Don't forget men like fragrances too so discuss your choices with the florist when you place the order. You may even prefer to send a nice plant until you have determined his reactions. Remember florists are problem solvers. You do not need to have specific flowers or designs in mind, just have a clear idea of what you want to achieve.

Care instructions for your cut flowers

You should always use a clean vase, clean cool water and add a commercial preservative, a teaspoon of sugar or a dissolving aspirin. It is easy to clean vases by adding a teaspoon of bleach, and rinsing well with warm water.
Strip all leaves from the stems which will be submerged and trim them at an angle to allow the water in. Always use a sharp knife or scissors. Blunt equipment will only bruise the stems and stop water entering effectively.
It is essential to use a roomy vase so water can flow freely around the stems. Flowers are much happier kept away from direct sunlight, heaters, lamps and other electrical appliances and heat sources. Keep away from draughts and not too close to ripening fruit as the ethylene gas accelerates the aging process.
Vase water should be changed every second day and remember to trim the stems 1-2cm before placing them back in the water.

Arrangements in oasis have been professionally arranged and styled. Ensure sufficient water is always in the bowl to which artificial preserver should be added.

How to really make an impression

So the occasion you need to acknowledge, is for a really difficult to buy for person. Maybe they are of an age where they don't really need anything in the way of gifts, or they are just plain fussy. Or perhaps they have a total obsession with sport, or gardening, or they may embrace a healthy lifestyle and are fresh fruit addicts or vegetarians. Chocoholics can be spoiled outrageously, and for those who love being pampered the toiletries are an absolute indulgence!
Send-a-Basket can help you design a basket specifically to include the relevant items.

Just remember if you are stuck for ideas we can probably help make it just a little easier for you. Phone, fax or email us today.
